Coffee with MD Virtual Mentorship Program (complete)
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions on shadowing, we are holding a round of Coffee-with-MD , a virtual mentorship program for the month of November. We will be pairing 1-2 students with either a medical, surgical, or radiation oncologist to have a 30-minute in-depth Zoom discussion on the corresponding oncology specialty. With such a small group setting, we hope to offer you the freedom to explore the clinical life of an oncologist in detail and have all your questions answered.

This year, the residency program directors of Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology (Drs. Lim and Carolan), along with Dr. Khorasani (colorectal surgeon) will be presenting brief introductions into their respective specialties and answering student questions. This event is a great chance for students to learn more about oncology and its diverse career paths! Food will be provided.
BC Cancer Agency Tour (complete)
The Oncology Interest Group along with the Rad Onc & Med Onc residents have put together a behind the scenes BC Cancer Agency Tour! This is your chance to connect with residents and fellows, see the facility (including radiation pods), and learn more about the specialty!
The tour and resident presentations will take place from 10am-12pm on Thursday November 7th at the BC Cancer Agency.

Oncology Shadowing Round 2 (complete)
The UBC Oncology Interest Group is offering more opportunities for students to shadow medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists. This will be an incredible opportunity to experience clinical practice and gain insight into what a day in the various fields of oncology entails! Dates have been predetermined and the team will do our best to match you to your requested times. Preference will be given to students who didn’t match in round 1, so don’t feel discouraged if you didn’t get a spot last time.

The Oncology Interest Group has organized an opportunity with the Vancouver Prostate Support Network for several students to attend a prostate cancer support group meeting. The first hour is going to be a guest speaker: Dr. Bernard, his subject will be Clinical Trials using Lutetium 177 & PSMA 61. The second hour is going to be a round table discussion with the patients and families. It is a great opportunity to meet oncologists and understand cancer from the patient’s perspective. Interested in, and want to learn more about oncology? The Oncology Interest Group is holding a tour of the BC Cancer Agency on Tuesday Jan 29th @10:00am. Both med onc and rad onc residents will present about their specialties, followed by some Q&A time, and a more interactive session including a tour of the facilities, Radiotherapy equipment etc.
This is a great chance to chat with med/rad onc residents, learn more about their programs, and ask residents any questions you may have!

This year, the Residency Program Director of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Hannah Carolan, along with Dr. Corey Metcalf (medical oncologist), and Dr. Rebecca Warburton (breast surgeon) will be presenting a brief intro into their specialties and answering student questions. This event is a great chance for students to learn more about oncology and its diverse career paths! Food will be provided.
